This course serves as a foundation for anyone consuming and/or designing and delivering APIs, including software engineers, architects, app developers, technical writers, and technical product managers. By the end of this course, you will have gained an understanding of API fundamentals, the business of APIs, gain a deeper understanding of HTTP, compose JSON objects, examine the principles of REST APIs, and apply HTTP, JSON, and REST principles to successfully interact with a live API.

Who should take this course?

This is a self-paced course that serves as a foundation for anyone consuming and/or designing and delivering APIs, including software engineers, architects, app developers, technical writers, and technical product managers.

Note: No coding is required for this course. However, the course assumes a technical background as it goes into the details of the HTTP protocol. If you want a less technical introduction to APIs, check out our API Fundamentals for Product Leaders course.

Learn

The course is a mixture of short lectures, step-by-step walkthroughs, and hands-on exercises to apply what you have learned. Each exercise is followed by a solution walkthrough, giving you an experience similar to live workshops - at your own pace.

Attendees should have administrator rights to install Postman, Insomnia, or Paw on their machine.

Alternatively, they should be able to access the Hoppscotch.io website, a web-based alternative to the tools listed above.
